  9. 9. Shape Mask Keyframing

Animate Picture-in-Picture shape masks (Circle, Rounded Rect, Diamond, Star): • In Video Inspector, scroll to PiP Shape Mask. • Keyframe Center X, Center Y, or Radius / Size to create dynamic spotlight reveals and expanding mask transitions.

Good to know

  • Pacing: Keep entrance animations between 0.4s and 0.7s for snappy, modern pacing.
  • Combine Scale + Opacity: Fading opacity from 0% to 100% over the first 30% of a scale pop makes reveals feel much smoother.
  • Export Accuracy: All easing curves use exact mathematical parametric expressions during MP4 export, guaranteeing your final video matches your preview 1:1.
  • Move Keyframes: Click and drag any diamond left or right along the timeline track to adjust its timestamp.
  • Canvas Trajectory: Make sure the clip is selected, has at least 2 position keyframes, and "Motion Path on Canvas" is ON.

The 11 Easing Curves & Mathematical Momentum

Deep dive into easing curves: Linear, Quad, Cubic, Overshoot, Bounce Out, Elastic Out, and Hold Step.

Pro / Advanced Keyframe Animation
[ 🌊 Smooth ▾ ] Easing Menu
  1. 1. Why Linear Motion Feels Robotic

In the real world, objects have mass and inertia — they do not instantly start and stop at maximum speed. Easing curves simulate real-world physics, weight, and elasticity.

  2. 2. Entrance Curves (Ease Out)

    • Ease Out (Quad): Smooth, gentle deceleration to a stop. • Ease Out (Cubic): Snappy high-speed entry with smooth braking (ideal for modern title reveals and cards). • Overshoot / Back Out: Pops past 100% scale before snapping back for high-energy creator graphics.

  3. 3. Physics & Dynamic Curves (Bounce & Elastic)

    • Bounce Out: Simulates physical gravity drops and floor bounces (great for falling titles and badges). • Elastic Out: Springy oscillation like a rubber band.

  4. 4. Continuous & Exit Curves

    • Ease In-Out (Smooth): Gentle S-curve acceleration and deceleration for natural camera pans. • Ease In (Cubic): Rapid exponential acceleration for high-speed exits and drops. • Hold / Step: Freezes the value until the next keyframe for retro 8-bit motion and blink text.

Good to know

  • For fast-paced social media reels, Ease Out (Cubic) and Overshoot deliver the punchiest viewer engagement.

Curves vs. Keyframe Lanes (Dope Sheet)

Master the difference between Curves (how it moves) and Lanes (when it moves), how to retime animations, and why lanes start empty.

Beginner Keyframe Animation
Lanes (Dope Sheet)Curves (Value Graph)Drag Diamond (Retime)[ ◀ ] / [ ▶ ] (Snap KF)
  1. 1. The Core Difference: Curves vs. Lanes

    • Curves (Graph Editor): Focuses on DYNAMICS & EASING ("How does it move?"). Use this to sculpt bezier curves, overshoot, bounces, and velocity spikes. • Lanes (Dope Sheet): Focuses on TIMING & SYNCHRONIZATION ("When does it happen?"). Use this to slide keyframes along time, retime animations, and coordinate multiple properties.

Tip Think of Curves as the "Feel & Dynamics" editor, and Lanes as the "Master Clock & Timing" editor.
  2. 2. Why Do Lanes Look Empty at First?

If you have not recorded any keyframes on the selected clip yet, all lanes will show simple flat lines with no diamonds. This is completely normal! To bring Lanes to life: 1. Position the playhead where you want motion to start. 2. In the Lanes view, click the Diamond icon (◇) on any property header (Position, Scale, Rotation, Opacity, etc.). 3. Move the playhead forward and change the value on the canvas or inspector. 4. Glowing diamonds (◆) will immediately appear in that lane!

Tip Clicking the diamond icon on any lane header toggles a keyframe at the exact playhead position without leaving the Lanes view.
  3. 3. Retiming Animations by Dragging Diamonds (◆)

Once diamonds appear in a lane: • Drag a diamond left: Moves the keyframe earlier, making that phase of the animation FASTER. • Drag a diamond right: Moves the keyframe later, making that phase SLOWER. • No need to zoom or pan complex 2D curves — just slide diamonds horizontally along the time ruler.

  4. 4. Synchronizing Multiple Properties at a Glance

Professional motion design often combines multiple properties simultaneously (e.g. an overlay that moves Position, pops Scale, and fades Opacity). • In Curves, you can usually only inspect one property graph at a time. • In Lanes, all channels are stacked vertically. You can instantly see whether your Position arrival, Scale pop, and Opacity peak land on the exact same frame.

  5. 5. The Master "All Keyframes" Lane

At the very top of the Lanes view is the "All Keyframes" master lane: • It displays cyan diamonds representing every point in time where ANY property has a keyframe. • Dragging a diamond in the Master Lane shifts all properties at that timestamp together in lockstep! • This lets you delay or advance an entire complex animation without desynchronizing individual channels.

  6. 6. Rapid Keyframe Stepping (◀ / ▶)

Each lane header features Jump Previous (◀) and Jump Next (▶) buttons: • Click them to snap the playhead directly to the exact millisecond of adjacent keyframes. • Essential for inspecting or fine-tuning numerical values at exact keyframe moments.

Good to know

  • Quick rule of thumb: Use Curves to change the motion shape (smooth, bounce, overshoot). Use Lanes to retime or synchronize multiple properties.
  • Drag in the top Master Lane to retime your entire multi-channel animation in a single gesture.
  • Hover over any diamond marker in a lane to see its timestamp, exact value, and easing type in a tooltip.

  4. Attach Overlays or Effects

Choose what to pin: Text Title, Sticker / Badge, Blur Mosaic (Face Blur), Pixelate (License Plates), or Focus Spotlight.

Good to know

  • Path smoothing averages neighbouring frames, so attached stickers glide instead of twitching when the camera moves quickly.

💬Text & Captions

Animated Captions

Add caption text that animates itself — typewriter, karaoke, highlight marker and more — then edit every part of it.

Beginner Text & Captions
  1. Open the Captions panel

In the left tool dock, expand Create and click Captions. The gallery filters by All, Reveal, Impact and Motion - hover any tile to watch that animation play.

Tip Captions are separate from Text. Use Text for titles and lower thirds; use Captions when you want the words themselves to animate.
  2. Add one to the timeline

Click a tile to drop the caption at the playhead, or drag it onto any track. Captions look for a free caption lane of their own, so they never land on top of your video clips.

  3. Type your words

With the caption selected, edit the text in the inspector on the right. The animation re-times itself to whatever you type — a long line speeds up on its own so the reveal always finishes inside the clip.

  4. Change the animation any time

The Animation dropdown at the top of the inspector swaps between all 15 caption styles, each shown with its category. Your text, colours and timing are kept — only the movement changes.

  5. Set the pace

Animation speed is a multiplier from 0.25x to 3.00x: higher is faster. For Karaoke and Highlight Marker the sweep is paced across the whole clip, so trimming the caption shorter also tightens the sweep.

  6. Style it

Font, size, colour, outline and text effect all work exactly as they do for Text overlays. Karaoke and Highlight Marker add a row of six Highlight colour swatches for the emphasis.

Tip On Highlight Marker the words automatically flip to a readable colour on top of the block — you only pick the marker colour.
  7. Place it

Drag the caption in the preview, or use Position, Center Screen and Reset Scale in the inspector. Trim the clip edges on the timeline to change when it appears and how long it stays.

Good to know

  • Typewriter, Reveal Wipe and Fade In are the calm ones — good for tutorials where the words should not fight the screen recording.
  • Word Pop, Bounce and Glitch are the loud ones — good for short-form social video.
  • Karaoke and Highlight Marker keep the whole line readable and sweep emphasis across it, which suits captions timed to speech.
  • Captions do not use the keyframe animation panel — the style already carries the movement. Position and scale controls are still there.

Turn Auto Subtitles into Animated Captions

Transcribe speech automatically, then apply any caption animation to the whole transcript in one click.

Intermediate Text & Captions
  1. Generate the subtitles

Right-click a video or audio clip and choose Auto Subtitles, then pick a language. English is transcribed on your own machine; other languages are translated online after transcription. The result appears as a subtitle block on the timeline.

Tip If you detached the audio earlier, run Auto Subtitles on the audio clip rather than the video.
  2. Check the wording first

Select the subtitle block and read through the lines in the inspector. Fixing obvious mistranscriptions now is quicker than fixing them afterwards.

  3. Apply a caption style

Right-click the video clip or the subtitle block and choose Apply Caption Style. Pick any animation and confirm.

  4. What you get

Every spoken line becomes its own animated caption clip, timed to the speech, on a free lane. Each one can be re-worded, re-timed, restyled or deleted on its own.

Tip Leave "Remove the original subtitle block" ticked. Turning it off keeps the plain subtitles as a backup, but then both render at once.
  5. Change your mind later

Right-click the video clip again — the menu now reads Change Caption Style. Restyling keeps your text, timing and edits and changes only the animation, unless you tick "Also reset speed to 1.0x".

  6. Remove them in one go

Right-click the video clip and choose Delete Generated Captions, or right-click any generated caption and choose Delete All Captions from This Clip. One undo brings the whole set back.

Good to know

  • Captions you placed by hand are never touched by the group restyle or the group delete — only the generated set is.
  • Very short lines (under a quarter of a second) are skipped, because a caption that brief cannot be read.
  • Animated captions are rendered frame by frame on export, so they take a little longer than plain subtitles - budget some extra time on a long transcript.
  • If a clip has subtitles in more than one language, the original language is converted so two languages do not stack on top of each other.

🧠AI Background Removal

AI Background Removal & Portrait Cutouts

Remove video backgrounds automatically with the Robust Video Matting (RVM) neural network - no greenscreen required.

Intermediate AI Background Removal
  1. Select Video & Open Background Removal

📤Export & Sharing

Exporting Your Video

Export in 1080p Full HD or 720p, at 30 or 60 FPS, with GPU-accelerated encoding.

Beginner Export & Sharing
Ctrl + E (Export Video)
  1. Click "Export Video" (Top Right)

Click the teal "Export Video" button in the top header toolbar or press Ctrl + E.

    Shortcut Ctrl + E
  2. Select Resolution & Frame Rate

Choose 1080p Full HD for the sharpest result, or 720p for a smaller, faster export. The exact pixel size follows your project's aspect ratio (1920x1080 for 16:9, 1080x1920 for 9:16). Then pick 30 FPS or 60 FPS. 1080p at 60 FPS gives the highest quality and the largest file.

  3. Name the File & Choose a Folder

Give the export a file name and pick where it should be saved. Video is written as MP4, which plays everywhere and uploads to every platform without conversion.

  4. Hardware Acceleration
